Rory finishes 2nd in the 2010 Kariza Classic
Thanyakorn, 20, who returned this morning to complete his third round, closed with two remarkable birdies for a sizzling six-under-par 66 for a four-day total of 13-under-par 275 to edge local hope Rory Hie by one stroke at the Imperial Klub Golf.
Hie played one of his best rounds with a 67 to settle for second place on a 276 total while Thailand’s Nakul Vichitryuthasastr was a stroke back on 277 at the US$60,000 Asian Development Tour event.
Hie flew his country’s flag high and despite finishing second, he was delighted with his polished performance where he carded five birdies against one bogey.
“My ball striking has been good and I just need to work on my putting. It has been a good week for me and it gives me confidence for my next tournament,” said Hie, who was the first Indonesian to earn his Asian Tour card through Qualifying School in 2009.

RORY HIE (IND) FIRST ROUND 69 (-3)
This is a good round for me. I hit the ball very well and could have done better if I had sank more putts. But I’m happy with the way I’m striking the ball.
The highlight of my round came on the 18th hole (played from the back nine) when I hit my third shot over the green but managed to chip in for birdie from about 25 feet.
The rain suspension messed up my momentum because I was three-under before they stopped play and couldn’t get my round going again. I was on the third hole (fairway) after the play suspension.
The greens are holding up and you can hit a lot of shots close to the pin. There’s not much wind so it was pretty much a scoring day.
I went to see Andrew Argus in Malaysia and since then my game has been improving every week and I’m starting to get my confidence back up. He changed my grip and that was the biggest thing for me. My grip was too weak before and he changed it to a more neutral position and I’m starting to hit it better.
I have good memories here from two years ago (2008) when I won here.
Rory shoots 69 to take the lead in Round 1 of Kariza Classic
From asiantour.com:
Jakarta, September 21:
Local prospect Rory Hie flew his country’s flag high by taking a share of the clubhouse lead with Thailand’s Thanyakorn Khrongpha after the first round of the Kariza Classic was suspended due to darkness on Tuesday.
Hie posted four birdies against one bogey to tie with Thanyakorn on three-under-par 69 at the Imperial Klub Golf where play was suspended for two hours in the morning due to a thunderstorm.
A total of 51 players will return at seven a.m. local time on Wednesday to resume their round at the US$60,000 Asian Development Tour event.
Hie, the first Indonesian to earn his Asian Tour card in 2008, produced a superb chip in birdie from 25 feet on the 18th hole (played from the back nine) after his approach shot flew over the green.
He was delighted with his polished performance after making changes to his grip under the guidance of coach Andrew Argus.
“I hit the ball very well and could have done better if I sank more putts. But I’m happy with the way I’m striking the ball,” said Hie, who won at the Imperial Klub Golf in 2008.
“I went to see Andrew in Malaysia and since then my game has been improving every week and I’m starting to get my confidence back up. He changed my grip and that was the biggest thing for me. My grip was too weak before and he changed it to a more neutral position and I’m starting to hit it better,” said the 22-year-old.
