Sophomore Rory Hie tied for 13th at 3-over 213 (75-73-71). He was enjoying a six-birdie outing and was 3-under overall on the final round before a double bogey on 17. But it didn’t prevent Hie from his fifth straight top 13 finish.

The Southern Highlands Collegiate took place last week in Las Vegas and USC sophomore Rory Hie earned his second collegiate victory after shooting a 3-under-par 71-69-73–213. Hie finished the final round in a three-way tie with Georgia’s Hudson Swafford and Jonas Enander Hedin of Charlotte, but was able to clinch the victory on the first playoff hole.

Golf World Announces Rory Hie of Southern California as “College Player of the Week”

NEW YORK, NY— Golf World has announced its “College Players of the Week” for the period March 3 and March 9. The feature will appear in the March 14 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online now.

This week’s honorees are sophomore Rory Hie of Southern California and freshman So–Hyun Park of Notre Dame. Hie won the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas after shooting a three–under 213. The victory came five days after he posted a T–10 at the USC Intercollegiate, helping the Trojans earn the team title.

Golf World’s “College Players of the Week” section highlights a male and a female who have demonstrated outstanding individual play during a seven day period.

Honor comes after sophomore wins second collegiate title.

Sophomore Rory Hie, who won his second career collegiate title on Sunday after emerging from a three-way playoff, earned Golfweek.com’s and Golf World’s Men’s Player of the Week honor the outlet announced on Tuesday (March 11).

Hie made birdie on the first playoff hole to win the individual title at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Classic. Hie opened with a 1-under 71 and followed it with 69-73 to finish at 3-under 213, tying him with Charlotte’s Jonas Enander Hedin and Georgia’s Hudson Swafford after regulation play.

Hie’s approach on the first playoff hole left him inches from a birdie, which he easily made for the title. His first win was at the 2007 USC Collegiate Invitational. It was also his team-best fifth top 10 finish this season.

Hie and the Trojans returns to action March 24-26 at the U.S. Collegiate at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.

Rory won the 2008 UNLV Southern Highland Collegiate Title

Winning the first playoff hole on the 18th with a near-eagle (pictured below), Rory took the UNLV Collegiate individual title.

Sophomore Rory Hie won a three-way playoff on the first hole and took the individual title on the final day of the UNLV Southern Highland Collegiate at Southern Highlands G.C. in Las Vegas on Sunday (March 9).

USC finished fourth overall at 14-over 878 (285-295-298). UNLV won at 869 and was followed by Charlotte (871), Georgia (872) and USC.

Hie’s final round gave him a 54-hole 3-under 213 (71-69-73) and his team-best fifth top 10 finish. The sophomore was 2-under for much of the round after three birdies on the front 9, but he gave some ground back on the back 9.

Hie finished the final round tied with Georgia’s Hudson Swafford and Charlotte’s Jonas Enander Hedin. Hie and Hedin entered the final round four strokes back of Swafford. Hie made up two strokes on the front 9. Both Hie and Swafford struggled some on the back 9 though Hie actually had the lead before his double bogey on 17 dropped him back into a tie at 3-under overall.

Hie’s win is his first since winning the 2007 USC Collegiate.

Hie takes individual title in playoff final

Sophomore Rory Hie picked up his second career win in a playoff as the USC men’s golf team finished fourth at the Southern Highlands Collegiate at the Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas.

Hie earned a spot in the playoff by firing a 3-under-par 213 (71-69-73). After starting the final round in second place, Hie’s 1-over 73 was enough to climb into a tie for first with Hudson Swafford of Georgia and Jonas Enander Hedin of Charlottewith. Hie won on the first hole of the three-way playoff.

Hie won his first title at the 2007 USC Collegiate Invitational as a freshman. He has a team-high five top 10 finishes on the year.

“I needed to win this season because it’s my goal to be a first team All-American,” Hie said.

Sophomore Rory Hie fired a 3-under 69 as the No. 7 USC men’s golf team, which spent most of the day in first place, fights for its second straight tournament title after two rounds of the UNLV Southern Highland Collegiate at Southern Highlands G.C. in Las Vegas on Saturday (March 8).

USC, at 4-over 580 (285-295), is six shots back of leader Georgia (574) while host UNLV is second (576) and Charlotte is third (578).

Hie is tied for second (four back of the lead) at 4-under 140 (71-69), his second round featuring five birdies, including three in a row between the seventh and ninth holes. Hie is after his team-best fifth top 10 finish.

First day:

Giles, Hie pace Trojan efforts: Troy Leads USC Collegiate After 36 Holes

On a day beset by gusty winds that played havoc with the ball in the fairways and on the greens, the host Trojans’ dominant first round offset a shaky second as Troy finished the first 36 holes of the USC Collegiate Invitational with the lead on Monday (March 3) at North Ranch C.C. in Westlake Village, Calif.

USC, when the wind was at its worst, scorched the course for an even 284 in the first round before falling off to a 307 in the second round. The collective first round of 23-over 591 was good enough to maintain the lead headed into Tuesday’s final round, which begins off the 1st and 10th tees at 7:30 a.m.

… Sophomore Rory Hie, the defending individual champion of the event, fired a 2-under 69 to open play and is tied for 12th at 7-over 149 (69-80).
